FSC Printing

Introduction

FSC Logo Guidelines

The specific FSC “check mark” logo that is used on your printed material depends on the type of FSC-certified paper you select for your piece. Although the various FSC logos look similar, different information appears in the body of the logo depending upon whether you have chosen a “pure”, “mixed” or “recycled” variety of paper. These words signify the amount of virgin pulp used to produce the paper.

TYPES OF LOGOS
Here are examples of the various types of logos. The certification number that appears within the logo is always that of the printer. The printer is responsible for making sure that the correct logo is used and that appropriate guidelines are followed for placement, color, etc. Each time the “check mark” logo is printed on FSC certified paper, your printer must seek approval. You are not, however, required to use the FSC logo on your printed piece.

FSC logo Types

PLACEMENT
You can reproduce the FSC logo anywhere on or within your printed material. A variety of logo treatments are available to help you match the integrity of your design including portrait, landscape or single, line formats. Here are examples:

FSC logo Placement

The FSC label is available as a full-color positive, black and white positive, full-color negative and black and white negative.

FSC logo spacing

SPACING
A designated non-printable area surrounds the FSC label to ensure that the label remains prominent. This area is calculated by using twice the height of the FSC wordmark. Safely apply more space when possible.

OTHER ECO-FRIENDLY LABELS
A variety of eco-friendly labels mark the landscape as the “green” movement gains traction, and more are likely to appear on the scene. Whenever the FSC “check mark” logo appears in conjunction with another logo, the FSC logo must remain prominent and distinctive. If you are contemplating using other labels in conjunction with the FSC label, be sure to discuss your intentions ahead of time with your DUKE representative.

MINIMUM SIZE
To avoid any reproduction or legibility problems, the FSC “check mark” logo must never be reproduced at a size less than 10mm high, and the logo must not be modified by:

  • Altering the proportion of the labels.
  • Altering the shape of the labels.
  • Changing the fonts within the label.
  • Altering the color of the labels.
  • Altering the color of the label contents.
  • Editing or changing the label information.
